July 2005 - How important is your logo to your company and its brand image? Very important for Smirnoff Ice it appears as they have recently asked to have their logo removed from a poster advertising a play at the Edinburgh Fringe. Smirnoff has decided that the content of the play, which includes a large amount of swearing and images of drug taking, should not be associated with their logo.

With a plot that focuses on a dying aids victim, is full of pimps and drug users and has a liberal use of the c-word its hardly surprising that they have decided to disassociate their logo from the play. Because of binge drinking and previous bad press vodka and other alcopop brands are working hard to clean up their image otherwise they face the potential of a total ban on advertising.

For some companies brand image is extremely important and it is vitally important that customers and potential customers make the right associations with their logo. When you have a logo designed for your company you want to consider what kind of impression does it give. If you want to appeal to a young and fresh market then is your logo young and fresh looking? A great logo design can be a central part of the image that you are trying to create for your company whether you deal on a local or a national level. Remember though you have to protect your investment just as Smirnoff and protecting theirs.
